Biography

Phil is a hard running and devastating striker who threatens defences with penetrating runs and lethal shots on goal – and his reverse shot is one of the most accomplished in the game. Phil was born and bred in Wellington and has often turned out for them in the New Zealand NHL. He is now a senior member of the team who is being used to cover the midfield from time to time.

Glasgow 2014 will be the fourth Commonwealth Games for Phil. Phil has represented New Zealand at the 2002 games in Manchester where the team placed 2nd, the 2006 games in Melbourne and the 2010 games in Delhi where the team placed 3rd. Phil was also a member of the New Zealand team that competed at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Phil is a midfielder, has 326 test caps and his shirt number is 18.

Phil’s career highs have been the silver medal they won at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and playing in Athens in 2004.

Cyclists lead the way again

For the third consecutive day the cyclists stole centre stage and the judokas again got among the medals at the Commonwealth Games.
