Biography

Janina is one the greatest professional big mountain female skiers of all time. In 2011 she finished third overall at the prestigious Verbier Extremes in Switzerland which is the finals of the Freeride World Tour. She has won the NZ Freeski Open Big Mountain event six times, is a two-time Canadian Freeski Champion and two-time World Heli Challenge Champion. In 2012 Janina made the big call to transfer her ski skills into halfpipe and focus on a new set of goals, with the specific aim of fulfilling a lifetime dream to become an Olympian. Despite a broken back in 2012, Janina has kept on track to achieve her goal. By the end of the 2013 northern hemisphere season she had achieved a solid overall ranking of 11th in the world having placed ninth at the World Championships in Norway and ninth at the World Cup finals in Spain. Janina’s ultimate goal is to achieve a podium placing at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Making New Zealanders proud is an important part of her Olympic dream. Janina has a twin sister, Maria, who is a member of the New Zealand national snowboard team. In her spare time Janina “loves doing anything in the outdoors.”
