Football refs join teams at Olympics

Peter O’Leary is set to add an Olympic Games to his already formidable refereeing resume with appointment to the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in London. O’Leary will lead his Oceania trio – fellow kiwi Jan-Hendrik Hintz and Ravinesh Kumar from Fiji are his assistant referees – among a total of 16 refereeing teams from 22 nations. The Whangarei school teacher has already officiated at eight FIFA events including four FIFA Club World Cups, two FIFA U-20 World Cups, an U-17 World Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where he was a fourth official.

NZ Swimming Officials heading to London

There are three New Zealand Swimming officials heading to London, Ross Bragg, John West and Jo Davidson. Ross Bragg will be officiating at the London 2012 Paralympics. It will be Bragg's fourth Paralympics as a swimming Technical Official. Sydney 2000 was his first followed by Athens in 2004. In Athens, the indoor pool was used by Water Polo and Synchronised Swimming whereas the Olympics swimming was in the outdoor pool area which was extremely hot. The swimming in 2008 in Beijing, was held in the complex known as “The Bubble”.

Kiwi to judge diving at London Olympics

Former elite New Zealand diver Simon Latimer is heading to London for the Olympics, as a judge. The 30-year-old became a FINA judge in 2008, and has steadily risen through the ranks, judging the Youth Olympics and New Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010. He is also a national selector and a member of the Diving New Zealand Development Committee. Latimer will be the youngest judge on the Olympic panel this year. In February Latimer went to London for the test event and said that the diving facility is great, as was the quality of diving.

NZ Sailing Hyères World Cup Regatta Preview

Seventeen kiwi sailors are in Hyères, France to represent New Zealand at the 2012 Semaine Olympique Francaise Regatta for Olympic class sailors. The Semaine Olympique Francaise, or simply Hyères as it is commonly known, is one of the major regattas in the International Olympic Sailing Circuit and is the fourth of seven regattas in the 2011-12 ISAF Sailing World Cup series. Racing starts in France on Sunday April 22nd, and runs for six days with medal races and prize-giving planned for Friday April 27th.

Triathlon and Football latest Olympic additions

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has marked the 100 day milestone to the Olympic Games with the naming of four triathletes to the New Zealand Olympic Team and the confirmation that both men’s and women’s football teams will be assured a place at London. The athletes and teams named today add weight to an already talented Olympic team set to perform with distinction and earn New Zealand’s 100th Olympic medal this year.

Rew confirmed for London Olympics

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has marked the 100 day milestone to the Olympic Games with the announcement of more selections for London 2012. Along with Triathlon and Football announcements, the New Zealand Olympic Committee confirmed the selection of 50km race walker Quentin Rew who met the IAAF A standard on March 25, just missing the initial athletics team selection.
