It has been a rather exhausting day of racing in the qualification round of the Olympics. I have been waiting a long time to get to the start line and today it arrived, the pressure was on to lay down some good runs and make the top 15 to progress to the semifinal. I was super stoked that Mike Dawson paddled really well the day before, breezing through to the semi in 8th position.
I had an okay first run, my time was competitive despite losing some valuable seconds in a few of the moves and incurring 6seconds of penalties for touching gates which was less than ideal. I went into the second run wanting to improve but unfortunately it fell away. I got offline and struggled to pull it back. This course is not forgiving when it comes to mistakes. I was disappointed with that second run and found myself having to wait for confirmation of my place in the semi. Luckily it was enough and a sigh of relief ended my first day of racing.
I did however thoroughly enjoy racing in front of the massive crowds and I am going into the semi final really fired up and not holding back like I was today.
Mike races on Wednesday so I will be able to cheer him on before I take on the waters once again.
Thanks so much to everyone for your messages of support, you are all amazing!
