Last night was the official opening of the 2012 Olympic Games and dressed in our number ones, we started the evening with a cruise to the food hall for dinner before settling in for the highly anticipated opening ceremony. The village was a buzz and everyone was looking forward to either marching in or, like myself excusing a late night and checking in on the TV action instead. Nick Willis was our flag bearer and made us all very proud as he lead our nation into the Games.
Nick was announced into this special position at a team function the night before. It was a highlight, with NZ singer Holly Smith coming in for a live performance and a good chance to get together with a lot of the team.

My training bib has been traded for a race bib as I paddled my last training slot on the course today. Having had most of the week recovering from an injury, it was great to be back and I rounded off with a good session.

I am pretty nervous but looking forward to racing on Monday (Tuesday NZ time) Mike races tomorrow and I will be out to cheer him on.
