My mum is still in mourning. Being Irish, the little Kiwi leprechaun has both the NZ and Irish flags flying high for the Rugby World Cup, though the Irish one has been at half mast since the quarter finals. But she’s not wallowing alone – how awesome has it been to see the massive support of the Irish and other teams from the NZ public? Flags flying, face painting, chants roaring. That is sport. And that is NZ. (OK, maybe in the case of the Irish supporters, it’s an excuse for a wee pint of Guinness?)

But I’m so stoked that the country has got behind all the visiting teams to our little slice of paradise down here. I was recently in Mapua (near Nelson) for the opening of one of the NZ Cycle Trails (Rabbit Island). What an awesome part of the country! We’ve certainly got the landscape and scenery covered to give the 1000’s of tourists that are here now some stunning polaroids, but add the visual and vocal kiwi support for their teams so far away from home and I reckon we’ve given them a complete package!
Though we can be forgiven for channelling the cheers to the Silver Fern come this weekend. Go the ABs!!!
